Oriental Medicine

“Oriental Medicine” (OM) refers to the ancient and modern practices of East Asian medicine that incorporate Acupuncture, Herbology, Bodywork, Nutrition & Dietary Therapy, Meditation Arts, and Movement therapeutics (such as Qi Gong and T’ai Chi.) It is also sometimes called TCM—Traditional Chinese Medicine—although this term refers to an amalgamated body of knowledge that has been taught in Chinese medical colleges since the mid-20th century.  The philosophical roots of OM view the body, mind and spirit as interpenetrating realities of existence that are deeply tied to Nature. The healing practices of OM are interwoven by the skillful Practitioner to support a return of natural harmony and balance to one’s life-force (called Qi—‘chee’).

In Massachusetts, only about 8% of Licensed Acupuncturists are certified in Oriental Medicine.  We believe that this level of training is integral to the quality of care we can provide, as Diplomates of O.M.  National board-certified Practitioners of Oriental Medicine are examined by the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine) and can be recognized by the credential: “Dipl. O.M. (NCCAOM).”

Bryn and Ra’ufa Clark are currently 2 of just 3 Diplomates of O.M. on the ‘North Shore’ area of MA.  For more information, see: www.nccaom.org
